Caramel Irish Coffee

Serra de Santa Bárbara · Ilha Terceira, Açores

A traditional Irish coffee joins hot black coffee and whiskey, crowned with cream. It’s a winter classic, with many variations. Our Azorean version is made with Licor de Natas Queen of the Islands, from Mulher de Capote, for a creamy touch and a caramel finish.

How to serve

A glass mug, piping hot coffee and a layer of cream floating on top. The secret is serving it in layers.

  1. Pour the hot coffee, the Licor de Natas and the Aguardente Vínica Velha into a glass mug. Add sugar to taste and stir well.

  2. Crown with the cream, letting it float gently over the coffee: use fresh liquid cream poured over the back of a spoon, or whipped cream.

  3. For a special touch, dust with nutmeg or drizzle with a thread of caramel. Serve immediately, while still hot.

Tip: pre-warm the glass with hot water to keep the drink hot for longer, and use freshly brewed coffee for a more intense flavor.
